The Eritrean independence politician of the 40s and 50s where a district in Asmara, Geza Berhanu, was named after his famous grand father

Graz. Berhanu Ahmeddin (11. 11. 1908 - 11.01.1973) He was born in Asmara. He was elected in the 1st and the 2nd Eritrean Assembly of 1952 and 1956. He survived 3 assassination attempts on his life by the Unionist thugs (1947, 1949 and on 21.02.1951). He is the father of Dr. Yusuf Berhanu, the current Chairman of the ENCDC. In one of the assassination attempts a hand grenade was thrown while his son Yusuf was playing near him outside their house. He jumped over and covered his son, who was saved while Berhanu sustained injuries.
